The Gong Dao Bei, or Fairness Cup, is used in Gongfu brewing to combine and harmonize the flavors and aromas of two or more steeps, so that it may be poured for guests, with each cup containing the same quality of tea.
This pitcher is made of white porcelain with a clear hexagonal siding that allows the color of the tea liquor to shine through with a technique called "Rice Grain". This technique is ancient and uncommonly used, where holes are carved from the porcelain and then filled with glaze that, when fired, create windows to see into the teaware. Due to the nature of this technique, small defects such as opaque bubbles in the clear sections are common.
